Newsletter 2 – Autumn Term 2017

Tuesday 31st October 2017

Reflecting on last half term, there has been a great deal to celebrate.  We shared a successful Harvest Service with a generous amount of gifts donated to support those less fortunate than ourselves. We enjoyed a successful Macmillan coffee morning, in partnership with Lloyds Bank. Year 1 children visited Stockley Farm, Year 2 children visited Styal Mill and Year 6 went to the Jorvik Centre in York.  During the last week of term, we had two special events.  KS2 had an 80 minute theatre show on e-safety.  Two of our School Councillors visited the Stretford foodbank to see how the food donated is used to support families.  For me, the highlight of the last week of term, was our ‘Autumn Day’.  There was a high level of enthusiasm from all the children and the staff planned activities to engage all the five senses, connecting with the outdoor environment.  We plan to do a seasonal day each term along the same lines.

Before we finished for half term our children took part in test week and we look forward to sharing your children’s results and progress with you at parents evening.

Well done to all our children, particularly those who have settled so well into our Nursery and Reception classes.  Also, a special welcome to children who have joined us at St. Michael’s from other areas during the course of the half term.

Bonfire Tickets

Tickets are still available from the school office for the Abbotsfield Park Bonfire on Saturday 4th November 2017.

Parents’ Evenings

Parents’ Evenings are taking place on Monday 6th November 3.45 p.m. till 7.00 p.m. and Thursday 9th November 3.45 p.m. till 5.30. Please ensure that you have returned your preferred times on the pro-forma supplied in order for us to send out your appointment times on Friday 3rd November.  On Thursday 9th November the Book People Book Bus will be in the school grounds from 8.30 am until 4.30 pm.  The bus will be manned throughout the day and I am happy for you to collect your child at a time convenient to you during the day (following morning and afternoon registration) if you wish to accompany them onto the bus.

Poppies will be on sale in school from tomorrow at break times. Alongside the poppies we have some small items for sale provided by the British Legion. These include a wrist band, a reflective poppy to clip onto a school bag, a snap on ruler bracelet and an elastic bracelet with a poppy charm. The cost of each of these are £1 and will be sold on a first come first served basis. Thank you for your support of this charity.

E safety Awareness – Parents of children in Y3 to Y6

At the end of last term, the children had some e-safety training about how to use apps and Social Media safely.  Sadly, I have been surprised at the number of our older children who are not using apps appropriately. Please can I recommend that parents attend our e-safety training on Wednesday 15th November 2017 at 6.00 p.m. in the school hall. This is designed to develop your own awareness of the safety issues your children face when using social media.  Coffee, tea and biscuits will be served.  (Please return the pro-forma below confirming your attendance.)
