Newsletter 17 – Summer Term 2015

Friday 12th June

Dear Parents

I hope you all had a lovely break. We look forward to an exciting term which will include sports day, school trips for Year 4 to the Blackden Trust, Year 2 to Manchester Airport Visitor Centre, Year 3 event (TBA) and Year 1 to Formby, an open afternoon for parents’, Y6 Leavers Dinner and the Reception Class Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

The children from Year 6 and the School Council have worked hard to create a modern school logo to represent our school.

Following consultation with the governors, School Council and Year 6 the final four designs were presented to the children on Monday 8th June.

The new logo will be phased in. It will be on the outside signage and new books in September 2015. I do not expect parents to purchase new uniform or book bags until needed. All the school colours and the rest of the uniform will remain the same. It will only be the school sweatshirts and cardigans that will be altered.

DETAILS FOR 15TH JULY 2015

Following Reports on the 10th July, we would like to offer parents an open day on 15th July to see their children’s work. This year books will not come home as the majority will be used in the new class as a starting point for learning.

The school will be open

8.30 – 9.30 a.m.

2.30 – 4.00 p.m.

The Reception parents will meet the Reception staff at 2.45 p.m. on that day.

If you wish to have an individual appointment to discuss your child’s report, these can be made via the school office with the individual teacher.

LEAVERS DISCO – Friday 17th July 2016

All families are welcome to join us for the Leavers’ Disco on Friday 17th July 2015. This is taking place in the School Hall from 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.  Tickets will be on sale costing £2.00. Please complete the attached slip and return it to the school office indicating the number of tickets you require. The Year 6 children will then be responsible for issuing the tickets.  A tuck shop will be open during the evening selling crisps, sweets and drinks. Adults are welcome to bring along their own liquid refreshments!

STAFFING FOR SEPTEMBER 2015

We would like to welcome into Year 1 as our Key Stage One Lead Miss Flood. Miss Flood has worked for the last five years at Woodheys Primary School in Sale. She is a science specialist and has experience in Reception and Year 1.

We would also like to welcome Miss Livert who will be joining us in Year 3. Miss Livert was a very experienced teaching assistant who has worked across all year groups before deciding to train as a teacher. She is a keen sports woman with a love of football, rugby and foreign languages.

Mrs Willshire will work across school to cover PPA with PE and also Nursery.

Miss Mathers is supporting staff working with SEN children and intervention groups across Key Stage 2

Mrs Lucas will work covering PPA with music across the whole school.

 

National School Sports Week – Monday 22nd June – Friday 26th June

The children will participate in a variety of sporting events during NSSW.

 

Tuesday 23rd June – Fitness Tuesday! 

An outline/brief of the day is as follows:

  • 15-8.40am Breakfast Club – Easy wake up exercises for any children who wish to join in. This will take place on the playground (weather permitting!).
  • Each class will then receive a session during the day which will be a mix of Aerobics, dance, games to see what the students are the most engaged in, also including some nutritional education

 

Thursday 25th June:

All classes will receive a session on team building with coach Lee Myers.

 

Friday 26th June – Infant and Junior Sports day

9.00 – 9.20am:  Infants sports day opening ceremony on the infant playground.

9.30 – 11.30am Foundation stage and Infant sports day:

Foundation stage: this will involve the children taking part in a variety of activities/races similar to previous years on the running track of the field.

KS1: This year we are going to run the KS1 sports day as a ‘ Round Robin ‘ multi-skills events.  The children will be split into teams according to their house team and will then work their way around a number of activity stations where they can gain points for their house team.  Parents will be able to support their children from the centre of the field (usually where the children sit).  We hope this will give opportunities for the children to compete across all the areas of multi-skills; balance, agility and coordination.

1.15pm – 1.30pm: Junior opening ceremony on the infant playground.

1.30pm-3.20pm KS2 Sports day:

The children will be split into house teams and will take part in a variety of races/activities, similar to previous years.

 

Sainsbury’s Sports Voucher

Thank you for all your support in the collection of the Sainsbury’s Sports Vouchers. We have to send them off by Monday 22nd June 2015.  Please ensure that any vouchers are handed into school by Friday 19th June.

 

URMSTON AND PARTINGTON LOCALITY PARTNERSHIPS VOLUNTARY SECTOR GRANTS

Vote for our pond!

We have been successful in making it to the next stage of the 2015/16 Grant Scheme. There are twenty one applications which have been included in the final public voting event which will be held on Saturday 11th July at Eden Square, between 12.00 and 3.00 p.m. At this event residents will have the chance to find out about the projects and will be invited to vote. We hope as many of you as possible will go to Eden Square on that day and vote for St. Michael’s Pond Project. Many thanks to Tracey Thorniley and Mrs Leach for their hard work in getting us to this stage.
