World Book Day Thursday 5th March 2015
It is World Book Day on Thursday 5th March and we have arranged for workshops for all the children in the afternoon to celebrate the event. Everyone is invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. In order to ensure the day remains book focused we are asking the children to bring one of the following: a photograph of themselves reading in an unusual place, the paragraph which describes the character they have come dressed as, a book review of their favourite book or a poem which can be shared with their class in the morning.

School Book Fair – Tuesday 10th March – Friday 13th March 3.30 – 4.00 p.m. in the School Hall.
Please come along and browse with your children and encourage them to read for pleasure and information. Please find attached a £1 World Book Day voucher which can be used towards the purchase of any book on sale at the Fair. It is also possible to order books on-line before the fair and arrange to have the order delivered to school for collection. If you wish to order in this way please visit www.travellingbooks.co.uk. We have also attached a brochure for you and child to browse before the event. The Book Fair will be open during Parent’s Evening.

Young Voices Y5 and Y6 Wednesday 4th March 2015
Our Y5 and Y6 children will be taking part in the Young Voices concert at the Phones4U Arena on Wednesday 4th March 2015. The children will be performing along with professional musicians and singers to a packed audience at one of the biggest venues in the country. I would like to thank the parents for their support in enabling the children to take part in what will be an unforgettable and exciting event.

Community Fundraising
In support of the work of Francis House Hospice, the children will have the opportunity to purchase an Easter gifts for £1.50 each. The gift comprises a knitted Chicken Egg Cosy with a Cadburys Crème Egg inside. A representative of Francis House Hospice will run an assembly for the children, informing them of the work of the hospice, on the morning of Tuesday 10th March 2015. The eggs will go on sale from morning break of that day, and will be sold on a first come first served basis.

E-Safety Production – Friday 6th March 2015
Further to our e-safety week Firehorse Production are coming into school to do a performance called Sticks and Stones, which consolidates the work the staff and children have already done on e-safety. On this occasion I have financed the cost of the production, £522.00 from the school budget. I am very happy to fund the show on this occasion. However I need to reiterate to parents that the majority of enrichment activities including school trips and events such as this rely on voluntary contributions as a result of limited budgets.

Easter Assembly and Farewell to Revd. Vicky Johnson. Wednesday 25th March 2015
Our Easter Service will take place on Wednesday 25th March, 9.00 a.m. in church. All parents are welcome to join us. It will also be an opportunity to say farewell to Revd. Vicky who leaves us on Sunday 5th April to take up her new post as Residentiary Canon at Ely Cathedral.

Trim Trail
Works commences on our Trim Trail during the week of the 23rd March. Thank you for your support of events such as the Michaelmas Fair, Raffles and our Valentines Red Day. Monies raised from these activities along with matched funding have enabled nearly £6000.00 worth of work to be carried out. The work includes the upgrading of our existing Trim Trail and the provision of a new one for the Early Years. I would also like to thank our PTA for all their hard work in facilitating these events.

Parent Partnership Development
As a head I am keen to support parent partnership as I believe it has a positive impact on a child’s performance and development. Sharon Ames, a specialist in this field, has worked in both St. Mary’s and Our Lady’s and her training for teachers and parents have come highly recommended.
I am offering two sessions with Sharon and providing child care provision to facilitate parental attendance. Session one will be at 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday 6th April 2015 and the second session will be on Tuesday 1st September 2015 at 1.30 p.m. The sessions will cover how to support learning and resilience in our children to equip them for the future. If you are interested in attending these sessions please fill in and return the attached slip to school in order for us to gauge the level of interest and practicality of organising the programme.
